The First Year: Trips and Trials: Snow on Mt. St. Helens
It was the third week in June and we decided to try for Mt. St. Helens,
east side run. This would be the second attempt; the first was aborted
due to rain.
Down 167 to 7 to 12 .... east to Randall. It was on this stretch
that I had my first Bambi scare.
Stop in Randall for fuel -- both for the bikes and the bodies. It's
80+ degrees (in June!). Riding up FSR25, the air gets cooler and
cooler. Where snow banks are 15 feet on either side of the road
(feeling like a snow cave), the air temps drop dramatically.
And pleasantly.
Since FSR 99 is closed, we shoot all the way down to I-5 and make the
loop home. Another 350 mile day.
