    About The Pony Express Fundraiser

    Pony Express Round-Up 2000
National Motorcycle Ride for Breast Cancer Research

Beginning with Arctic Tour '93 - Ride for Research and continuing on with two national relays billed as Pony Express Tours '96 and '98, the Women's Motorcyclist Foundation has hosted campaigns involving riders from all of the United States and Canada. Aboard every make of motorcycle, representing a richly diverse cross section of individuals, a third of the Pony Express Riders have been men; over 150 riders have been breast cancer survivors, and all are committed to "The Road to a Cure."

Through campaigns hosted by the WMF, Inc., riders have raised $954,805 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Komen allows 100% of the riders' pledged dollars to be earmarked solely and completely to breast cancer research. Pony Express Tour '98 - National Ride for Breast Cancer Research raised $612,305 alone. The goal for Y2K is $1 million.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is the largest organization in the world solely dedicated to eradicating breast cancer.

    Schedule

On Saturday, 1 July, "Four Corner" Promotional Teams depart Seattle, WA, Los Angeles, CA, Portland, ME, and Daytona Beach, FL for one of the four outer spoke locations. The Teams' mission? To encourage the growth of a rolling, growing community as riders make their way to the heartland of the US. Although this portion will not involve formally organized rides, riders are encouraged to utilize the Teams' routes to the outer spokes.

On July 7, 2000, riders who have met the minimum in pledges as Associate, Principal and Honor Guard Riders assemble at one of four spoke locations in Des Moines IA, Jefferson City MO, Wichita KS, and Omaha NE. (I am an Honor Guard Rider.)

On July 8, 2000, riders will converge to the hub of the wheel in St. Joseph MO, the home of the Pony Express National Museum.

On July 9, 2000, riders will overnight in Hannibal, MO en route to Peoria, IL.

On July 10, 2000, closing ceremonies will be hosted in Peoria, IL, birthplace of Susan G. Komen.
